New Years Ritual

New Years Ritual

New Years is a symbolic time for reflecting, purging and new beginnings. The following New Years ritual will help you ease into the new year with a solid grounding.  The best time to perform any New Years ritual is during the new years transition period (December 26 - January 7)

For this ritual, you will need to create 3 separate lists; a gratitude list, a purge list and a new beginnings list, (3 separate list on 3 separate pieces of paper).  These lists do not need to be complicated or detailed, a simple bullet lists for each category will suffice. Note - You can create your list ahead of time however the actual ritual should be done within the transition period.

You can do this ritual alone or with a group.  If you perform this ritual as a group, each individual should create their own set of lists.

Set your intention...
  • The intention for this New Years ritual is to begin the new year with solid grounding and purpose.

Create your lists...
  • Gratitude List -Think about the year ending and list the things, people and events you're grateful for.
  • Purge List -Think of the coming new year and list the things, people, situations that you want to release in the new year.
  • New Beginnings List -List new ideas, projects, habits and relationships that you'd like to begin/cultivate/strengthen in the new year.

 Ritual Tools...

  • Your 3 Lists
  • A candle
  • Long tweezers or kitchen tongs
  • A ceramic bowl or pot with a lid

Step 1 - Light your candle and read your Gratitude list.  Give thanks for the things/people on this list and ask for more of the same in the new year.

Step 2

  • Read your Purge list.  Ask that the things/people on your list be removed from your space/energy field during the coming year.
  • Using long tweezers or kitchen tongs, begin burning the list with the flame of the candle and place in the ceramic bowl until there is nothing left but ashes.
  • Take the ashes and flush them down the toilet.

Step 3 Read your New Beginnings list. Give thanks for the new year and ask guidance and direction in making the items on your list come to be.

To end the ritual, blow out your candle.
